GALVANIC ANODES Galvanic anodes are used in cathodic protection to reduce corrosion. Once attached to a metallic structure, the anode draws corrosion away from the structure and onto itself. The structure becomes the "cathode", or the negative entity through which reduction occurs. |

ZINC
Zinc anodes are generally used in earth anode beds. The anodes are typically slender in structure to achieve low resistances to the earth and to achieve practical current output. Zinc anodes come bare, pre-packed and ribbon type.

IMPRESSED CURRENT
Impressed current anodes are used with larger structures on which a sacrificial galvanic anode system would not prove economical. This type of corrosion control utilizes an external source of direct current, namely a rectifier. There are many different types of impressed current anodes. Here are two popular types used.

PLATINUM
This anode is consumed at at very low rate. It's efficiency compensates for the higher cost of this type of anode.
